Flamstead Book Fest

Hello all,

Last month I was lucky enough to run a children's workshop at the charming Flamstead Book Festival.
The beautiful little village is famous for it's community spirit, especially it's very popular Scarecrow festival. This however, was it's very first book fest.

I was overwhelmed by the response. About 30 children turned up to my session where we made paper books and filled them with pictures and stories. I was hoping to get a big group photo but the time whizzed by and before long they were off for their next bookish adventure!

Here's a few snaps though:

(These three are by Alex Ridley. You can see her other shots of the fest here)

A brilliant book-maker! I love how she made big decorative letters to begin each chapter, inspired by her fairytale books. She also wants to be an equestrian, an author and a marine biologist when she grows up! (Sorry I didn't get your name)

Books in the belfry! (including a couple of Improper Books!)

I also managed to catch most of Jonathan Stroud's session, which was brilliant!! :D

A big thank you to everyone at the fest (especially you Vikki) for being so friendly and welcoming. Also lots of thanks and sparkles to Gemma from Waterstones St. Albans for inviting me and being lovely company, I loved helping out at the book stall :D

I will be taking this workshop on a little Waterstones tour over the summer holidays. I will be visiting the following shops:

Uxbridge - 5th August
Hemel Hempstead (am) and Berkhamstead (pm) - 21st August
St.Albans -30th August

I will also be running a workshop at my home store, Hatfield, date to be confirmed.
Please contact a branch for details or to book a place.

When the tour is over i'll put up all the info/ideas/how-to sheets I made, for anyone to print out and use at home. It's a great activity for a rainy day. If you would like them now, you can email me at this address and i'll gladly send them over to you :)

Happy book-making! :D
